Say hello to Albatross, our latest interior design project thoughtfully created for a young family of four and their two cats, Spooky & Joseph.

Drawn to the playful and relaxed vibe of our Burleigh showroom, the family came to us looking for a home that balanced comfort with functionality - a calm, versatile space to grow with them over time. Working closely with Shelby from our design studio, we brought their vision to life, creating a home that feels warm, lived-in, and full of heart.

We sat down with the family to chat about their design journey, favourite pieces, and what life looks like inside Albatross.

Can you tell us a bit about your home and what made you decide to work with Kira & Kira?

After visiting Kira & Kira’s new showroom in Burleigh Heads, we decided to enlist their interior design service for our home's interior. With two young girls, we were drawn to the refreshing and playful vibe of everything we saw. It felt like the perfect match for our family home - something that would bring both fun and warmth to our space.

What was the design brief for Albatross?

Our design brief was centered around the needs of our young family. We wanted a modern yet functional space that balanced aesthetics with practicality. Comfort is a priority for us, as well as creating versatile areas that can evolve with our family.

When you engaged the Kira & Kira interior design studio, did you have a specific aesthetic or atmosphere you were aiming to create in your home?

Creating a calm, relaxing atmosphere was the most important thing for us. A space where we could unwind from our busy daily lives. We wanted a home that allows us to slow down, spend quality time together as a family (cats included!), and feel at ease. At the same time, it was important that the space remained flexible - somewhere that could effortlessly shift between work, play, and entertaining.

If you had to pick three favourite pieces from the selections, what would they be?

Every piece feels so special and personal to us, it’s almost impossible to choose just three! That said, we’re especially drawn to the original artwork by Claudio Kirac in our kitchen. The kitchen truly is the heart of our home, and having such a beautiful, meaningful piece there makes the space feel even more special.

We also absolutely love the Pambula Sofa. I was especially looking forward to seeing it in our space. It has already become a central part of our everyday moments, even the cats have found their cozy corner and spot to relax on it.

And thirdly, we love the Aramadillo 'Meadow' rug in our bedroom - it adds such a calming atmosphere. The subtle touch of the pistachio color it brings is perfect, creating such a soft vibe. It transforms the space, making our bedroom feel like a peaceful retreat.

How did you find the overall interior design process and working so closely with Shelby?

It felt incredibly collaborative and personal from start to finish. Working with Shelby made all the difference - she has this ability to really listen and translate not just our style, but our way of living, into the design. Every decision felt intentional, and every piece chosen had a purpose. Shelby brought to life the vision that we had, it exceeded all of our expectations.

Has any aspect of the interior design changed the way you use or feel in your home?

Rearranging the furniture in the kitchen has significantly improved the flow of the space, creating a more purposeful dining area. Adding the bench seat has made the room feel much more functional, making better use of the available space and adding a cosy, inviting touch.

What kind of reaction have your friends and family had when they’ve visited the space

Our friends and family have loved the changes! We recently celebrated our daughter’s birthday, and hosting and celebrating in our newly updated space was so fun. It was so rewarding to see everyone enjoying the space.
