Located in one of the Gold Coast's most sought-after suburbs, Pacific Penthouse is an absolute beachfront apartment. Boasting 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and private rooftop with a private plunge pool, this project has all the makings of coastal-luxe.

Q. Tell us about the design brief

The client was after a contemporary coastal vibe, but with a point of difference. This wasn't going to be a stock standard coastal home - being the Penthouse we wanted to add some edge and luxe to the space, which was carried through the whole interior and also onto the private rooftop and pool area.

Q. Walk us through the design process for this project

For this project, I wanted to start with the statement pieces and work from there. After initial consultations with the client, I very quickly picked up that he had such a unique and contagious personality and character. I knew I wouldn't have to hold back on this one, so I was able to draw from his personality and bring it into the design.

We wanted to bring some fun into the bedrooms - the velvet green bed head in the guest suite, the pops of pinks and greens coupled with the wave bed head in the middle guest bedroom and the sea mist occasional chair in the master were the starting point for those rooms.

For the open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area, the view was the main character, so we wanted to keep this part of the house high-end yet refined, letting the view speak for itself.

Q. What was that one piece you just couldn't go past placing into this home?

Hands down the velvet green tufted bead head, but a close second was the rouge marble bedside tables in the guest suite. I adored the way the colour combination of those two pieces together came to life in this room.

Q. Biggest challenge?

The lifts! This is a challenge we always face with apartment living, but this project definitely required a lot of patience on install day...

But another challenge we had was in the guest suite. This room had such beautiful joinery and finishes, but this did mean that the walls either had windows and wall-to-wall curtains or built-in joinery making it difficult to incorporate any art. We had to find a way to create character without art, so pattern, colour and texture had to come from our furnishings.

Q. What about your biggest reward?

It sounds cliche, but the client absolutely loved it. They were also amazing to work with so that was definitely the biggest reward on this project.

I also loved the way the master bedroom came together. The way we were able to pair the navy blue with the sea mist green of the occasional chair brought a seaside charm in an unpredictable way.

Q. And if you had to pick a favourite room?

The guest suite. Despite the challenge of not being able to use art in this room, we feel like there's so much personality in this room, while also bringing a sense of luxury.
