Keira Wolf is a self-taught Australian artist based on the Gold Coast, whose creative journey began in early childhood. Drawing inspiration from her Hawaiian heritage, vibrant travels, and a background in special effects makeup, Keira explores a wide range of artistic expressions.

Her vivid acrylic, spray paint, and mixed-media works balance bold design with fine detail, often influenced by mid-century design, weathered street posters, and the natural world.

Keira’s art is deeply emotive, aiming to spark connection and feeling, as she describes her work as “an extension of her vivid dreams and imagination.”

We sat down with Keira to learn more about our newest artist!

We’re so excited to welcome you to Kira & Kira! Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a self-taught artist, raised on the Gold Coast. I have been painting for over 35 years ( makes me feel old haha)  I have lived in London and Hawaii. I love creating in all forms. I trained in special effects makeup but found my true love was painting on canvas rather than faces.

Where did you first discover your love for creating?

When I was very young, I have been fortunate to grow up with a creative family. My dad hand makes wooden skateboards, and my grandmother was very clever. She would paint old wooden chairs in folk art style and she would sew ties together to make jackets. Every time I would visit here in Honolulu she would have a craft task for me. Beading, painting, crafting - grandma is at the core of my inspiration.

What does a day in the life of Keira Wolf look like?

I am fortunate enough to be able to paint and create daily. I teach art classes to adults and kids. The kids art classes are my favourite because they are just so excited when they make something they love with their own hands. When I am not teaching art I am painting for myself in my studio, updating my website or trying to keep on top of my socials. Which sometimes is a struggle when you are wearing multiple hats.

I have a rule that as long as I touch a paintbrush daily, that makes me okay.

Even if I can only paint for 30 mins or 10 hours, that’s my goal I stick to. So with a coffee in hand I paint what I have dreamt of, or imagined or daydreamed. I have a very over active creative brain that does not turn off haha. So I am constantly scribbling ideas, drawing or painting what is in my head.

If you had to describe your art style in 3 words, what would they be?

Ooo that’s hard. Nostalgic, Playful, Cathartic.

We love the colours in your works and your unique approach to shapes and patterns - every time we look at a piece of your work we notice something new! Who, where and/or what do you turn to for inspiration?

My inspiration definitely comes from Hawaii and my grandma, my family in general. They have always been supportive of my creativity and crazy ideas.

I do love creating other worlds when I paint too, they can be like a whirlwind of colour and shapes. Some of my art has a “snakes and ladders” element to them, which give the artworks a playful tone.

A lot my details I have taken from retro repetitive patterns and design, I just love mid century design. They are so beautiful and strong yet harmonious, that’s what I try and emulate in my art.I don’t do large amounts of repetition but little splashes of each pattern through out the work, like I said they are almost like a board game. To get from here to there you have to travel through this design to get to the other.

I am actually not a huge colour person , I am not big on really bright colours but of course that can change as your life and mood changes. I really enjoy muted tones and off shades that allow you to still have a hit of colour but in an afternoon glow setting.

I want others to see my art as a psychedelic sunset dancing on canvas.

If you had to pick a favourite piece right now, which would it be and why?

I love GLOW VISIONS 2.0

This one I was close to keeping haha I just love the flow of the piece. When I painted it, it actually came out exactly as I imagined, which doesn’t always happen. So it has a piece of me.

What are you currently watching, reading and/or listening to?

I am actually re-watching Madmen, I love the 60’s aesthetic throughout the show. I stop and rewind a lot to catch things I miss in the background. I also just finished watching Basquiat's Radiant Child for the third time, as I love his work and his playful mind. He is definitely one of my favourite artists.

I love listening to podcasts too, I do love true crime but also love hearing about people’s start ups . So any podcast that tells stories about how a small business started is so interesting to me. It gives me a “I can do this” boost of energy.

Music-wise I am on a bit of a Prince journey right now haha but generally, I love old rock and blues music and I am an 80s girl at heart.

I don’t really get to read a lot as I feel I am always on the go, and my concentration isn’t great with books haha, audiobooks are the best! I'm currently chipping away at Scar Tissue, Anthony Kiedis.

What feelings do you want to evoke when people view your art?

I just want people to feel good about my art, that it evokes some kind of positive emotion when they look at it. :)
